Beauty: How to make an edible garden in containers look beautiful

I was delighted to be able to talk to the brilliant edible garden designer and permaculturalist, Jennifer Lauruol, founder of Carpe Diem Gardens,  recently. She visited Newcastle to interview me about growing food in small spaces (You can listen to that interview here).

During her visit, she kindly offered us these tips on how to create a beautiful edible garden. These include:
  • Grow roses to disguise your food garden (roses are beautiful, good for pollinators, and flowers and hips are edible).
  • Growing different plants of the same colour in a pot (eg calendula with yellow chard) is very striking.
  • Try to find a way to unite your pots stylewise eg chose the same style of pot or paint or decorate them in the same way.
  • Arrange pots so any white colours are in dark places and dark colours are in light places.
You can listen to her ideas in the player below or download the podcast by right clicking this link and choosing Save As.  Please forgive the lack of a formal introduction to Jennifer, this part of the interview was done somewhat adhoc!
